Michael Whelchel, co-founder of Estate Roadshow, was not always in the auction business. Before wielding a gavel, Michael was a stocks and commodities trader on Wall Street. After experimenting with buying and reselling estate items with his daughters, Michael realized there was more money in auctions than stocks.
Michael is an AuctionZip trailblazer. Way back in 2003, he was already talking with AuctionZip about online auctions, the development of a user friendly bidding platform, and special features like absentee bidding and photo listings. Realizing that today’s bidders have less time, and less gas money, to travel for items they are interested in, Michael saw AuctionZip Live! as the perfect solution. “We can give them the detailed descriptions and multiple pictures they need to really see an item so that they can make more confident bidding decisions. We can make the whole experience efficient and enjoyable.”
Estate Roadshow held its first live auction with AuctionZip in May 2010, and has simulcast more than 45 live auctions since. Michael’s goal is “to get as many eyeballs as possible” on his items. He consistently draws bidders from across the country and around the world. “AuctionZip Live! has been the key to attracting more bidders from overseas and to our increased sales in the last two years.”
